Well, we seemed to have dodged a bullet again today. Jack hasn't been eating well the past few days and I started getting concerned because it was reminding me of when he reherniated in December. I called the pediatrician and they sent us to the Frederick ER late this afternoon. Jack was examined and had a chest xray. It always amazes me what a good baby he is. He didn't cry once. I am VERY happy to say that he did NOT reherniate. In fact, his lungs look really good. They are the darker (blackish) areas on top. The miracle is that the left side is so well expanded. His heart and thymus are still slightly shifted to the left but we know that the left lung is somewhat hypoplastic so this is expected. Anyway, the pediatrician wanted to do a CT scan but the ER doc and I didn't want to because they would've had to sedate Jack and get i.v. access and Jack is a REALLY hard stick. I didn't want to put him through that. So, we still don't know what's going on but thank God it's not a reherniation. I'll call his docs at Hopkins tomorrow and hopefully they can offer some ideas. I really hope it's just something stupid like a mix of bad allergies from pollen making him have a dry cough and teething that makes him not want to eat. The problem is that because Jack is so borderline with his weight we don't have a lot of wiggle room for him to go off feeds. I guess for most kids it's not good and they might lose a bit of weight but for Jack it could be the difference between being dehydrated or not and any weight loss is a big hit. So far we're clinging to his growth curve but it usually takes a few days to see a change in weight. Keep your fingers crossed!
Here is the chest xray for those of you that have CDH babies and know how to read them ;-) Are those some gorgeous lungs and diaphragm or what?!

WOW Vicki, those lungs look GREAT! I'm so happy he didn't rehiernate.
It's not good when you live your life afraid thinking if he will get sick again... At least that happens a lot to me with Juan Pablo. Everytime he gets sick I'm afraid to end up at the hospital. Since he hasn't had his diaphragm repair surgery done, we're always afraid because his right lung is half the size of his left and part of his liver and stomach are up in the chest cavity, but the surgeon wants us to wait... Anyway. I'm so happy for you! :)
