The dreaded "C" word...(COLIC!)

Well, it seems like Anika escaped the whole CDH thing but she seems to be suffering badly from colic. I thought that perhaps she had reflux because she's arching but I brought her to our family doctor (we're in CT) and he thinks it's most likely colic and didn't want to rush into putting her on prevacid. I called our pediatrician yesterday to ask if I should try another formula and they wouldn't even entertain the idea of discussing it by phone. They'd have to see her. It must be some kind of legal issue because really, if I went in with her they'd just ask me what was going on - how is that different then me telling them by phone? I went with my instincts and got her Similac Isomil Soy formula yesterday. The doc today said that it was a good move and her poop already looked better today. We also discovered that she's eating way too much. She looks to suck when her belly hurts and then winds up drinking 4-5 oz. She should be taking 2-3 (maybe 4 if she's super hungry). That feeds into a vicious cycle when she's over full and it makes the colic worse. We're also going to try using the next stage up (Level 2) Dr. Brown's nipple for her. She seems to suck like crazy but doesn't actually get much with the Level 1. I really hope we see some improvements in the next 24 hrs or so.

So, our 'normal' newborn is giving us some feeding issues too. At least she's gaining weight. She's now 7 pounds 14 oz! I have to admit that as much as this colic sucks, it's almost refreshing to deal with normal newborn issues. A little sleep would be nice though.
