Just wondering if anyone ever used a baby hammock. The two I've seen are (the more expensive) Amby Baby or a similar (less expensive) version from Arm's reach. Both are supposed to be good for babies with reflux or colic. They're basically a hammock that is suspended from a spring. They are on an incline to help reflux and if you have a restless sleeper they are soothed by the motion of the spring/hammock when they stir. Anika has reflux and horrible colic AND she won't sleep in a crib. I'm getting very sleep deprived and will try just about anything. I don't know what we'll do when both James and I are back to work. Right now I'm doing all the night feedings so he can sleep and he does the weekends. We already tried the "cry it out" approach and she works up to hysterical crying and doesn't stop.
If anyone has some advice and in particular, experience with a hammock sleeper, please post a comment.

try inclining the head of the crib. When my son was a baby, he had colic--I found that "bundling" or wrapping him up warm and tight worked for him--he looked odd, all wrapped up, as it was summer and hot, but it worked.
Good luck--it does not last forever.

It looks like a great idea!! Go for it. I say try anything you can. Chloe did not sleep in her crib for the first 5 months. We either put her in a bassinet beside our bed or between us using (I don't know what it's called) but it has two sides so and a little pillow for her head so that we don't roll over on her. Good luck!
Our son had horrible reflux from being a premature. When we brought him home (a little over three pounds) he could not lay flat to sleep. My husband decided to try having him sleep in his carseat (which we put in the crib) and it worked wonders! We were able to get him off all of his medications that he was taking and he began sleeping. I hope you will be able to find something that works for you. Good luck!
I'm not sure if you have to log in to see these, but this might help...

The nurses at the hospital used to put Carter in a bouncy seat, at an incline, and put the seat in the crib. This way he'd get used to sleeping IN the crib. We also used sleep positioners when we got home and put the mattress at an incline by placing folded towels under the head of the mattress (between mattress and swing). I hope you find a solution soon and get some much needed rest.
vicki i thought the amby bed was awsome we used it for beka and after about two day in it she did well we eventually used it for naps and put her in the bed for night time sleep, it worked, she wasnt so over tierd i think, her eating got better too, another thing is we bought thorugh our birth to three program a sling that fit in brennah's crib, you raise the mattress at 35% incline and it straps to the mattress like a carrier sort of that helped ehr fluxing but the best thing was the similac sensitive rs the rs is rice starch, beka was allergic to milks and we just took rice cereal and blended it up to "flour" and added it in her formula that was what made the difference.
I am a friend of Gina's and mother of three. I have followed your blog since Jack was little and Wyatt was born. Anyhow, I have an amazing wedge that was given to us by an ENT doc. when he was through with it for his own child. It is about 16" from base to top, having a velcro seat at the bottom. (a bit like a bouncy seat) You strap in the child and it works beautifully. My youngest slept in it for about six months. Before that, he was in the bouncy seat in the crib. I can pass it along if you are interested. I live in Carroll County.
