Jack Goes to Washington, D.C. and the National Zoo!!

Today James, Jack and I had a family outing. We decided to take Jack to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. This was his first trip to D.C. (the in utero appts at Children's National Medical Center don't count!). James bought Jack a cute safari hat. Jack loved walking around and I think he enjoyed the people watching more then the animals. It was insanely hot out so we took frequent breaks in the shade. After 1 hr Jack fell asleep. As you can see from the photos he missed the elephants! He did enjoy watching the orangutans on their lines. They have these high wire lines throughout the zoo and the orangutans run from one high post to the next over the lines (see photo above).

The National Zoo is such a fun place and when he's a bit older he will love the hands-on activities. They have a kid's farm and you can work 1-on-1 with a zookeeper to brush animals, feed them etc. We also saw that when he's 6 years old he can do a zoo overnight camping trip. You go star gazing and on a flashlight tour of noctural animals and then "wake up to the roar of the lions". How cool is that?!!

I think it was a great first trip for Jack. Next on the agenda is the Museum of Natural History. He will love the dinosaurs!

The last photo is Jack on his new bench. His physical therapist brought it over. He can already sit independently on it. I just can't believe how fast he is improving since we brought PT onboard.
