James and I just returned from a 10 day visit to Istanbul, Turkey. I had a meeting there and James came along to do some sight-seeing. Jack stayed with my mom and dad in CT. We missed Jack so much but it was a nice break from all the chaos of the past year. I had a rough pregnancy and then spent a lot of time in hospitals and doctors' offices this year so it was a good opportunity for us to get away. I was glad to go to a scientific conference and get 'back in the game' so to speak. Above are some photos of our trip. We visited the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Palace, Grand Bazaar, Spice market and several other places we discovered while getting lost. We also had a great boat ride along the Bosphorus at sunset.

Jack did incredibly well while we were gone. In 10 days he learned to go from laying down to sitting up, can crawl on his hands and knees (and fast too!), he can blow kisses, point to my photo on the fridge when my mom asks him where "mama" is. He can also cruise around in his playpen and on furniture. I think that if we left him with grandma and grandpa for another 10 days he'd be out the door and working!

It's only 2 more days until Jack's first birthday. If someone would've told us we would be at this point in his recovery in only 1 year I wouldn't have believed it. We really are so fortunate.

Once I recover from jet lag I will take some photos of Jack with his Turkish souveniers!

Vic,

I've been meaning to email you since yesterday. I want you to know what an inspiration you and James andJack were to me during my pregnancy with Ned. Ned was diagnosed on August 29th of last year, so as soon as I started looking into CDH and found some resources, Jack was the first baby I really followed. I'm sure I told you this a million times, but his prognosis was almost identical to Ned's and because he had the name of my first son, I felt immediately and intensely drawn to him. When I would feel low or hopeless I would look back over Jack's blog and remember that miracles still happen today and I could believe that God would heal my son. I can't tell you how much more difficult my pregnancy would have been it it weren't for your strength to share you journey with me. I appreciate your willingness to put yourself out there so much! I know I've told you this a million times as well, but Jack is a q-t-pie. I mean a real heart-breaker. If my mom has looked at his blog one time and told me how cute he is, she has asked me to log on and check out his new pictures at least 15 times. When we adopted my little sister from Romania, one of the hotel workers said she had "sticky face." My mom was really confused thinking maybe she had candy on her face, but the little man explained that once you laid your eyes on her, you could never forget her face...that's what Jack has..."sticky face".
